Slums
“Steady migration of people from rural areas to cities brings huge problems in its wake due to slums,”(BBC news, 2008). Slums are a problem growing very rapidly all around the world effecting lots of people. They can cause lots of problems for both people and ecosystem. Being aware of this serious issue is crucial. The existence of slums around the world affects human population because slums are dangerous, they cause health problems, and people who live in slums live in poverty.
Slums affect human population because slums are dangerous. “ …Residence are missing at least durable walls, secure lease and title, adequate living space”, (Forbes, 2007). This quote means that people are so poor that they don’t even have enough protection from even people getting inside their house. Many of the slums are dangerous because the houses there are so close together. They are dangerous because the people who live there live in poverty and don’t have much protection around their home. The people who live in the slums are the people who run the slums. There isn’t a lot of order or rules in the slums. Danger in slums is a negative effect on population.
In addition, slums affect human population because they can cause health problems. “Slums throughout the developing world are-in a sense giant cesspools. Sanitation systems are nearly absent. Human waste leaches into the water people drink and contaminates the food they eat,” (theworld.org, 2006). This quote shows how unsanitary slums are. People literally live in trash all around them. People do not have resources needed to have sanitation in the slums. The people do not have the resources available for them to even go restroom. People dump trash into slums because the government simply does not care. Slums can cause diseases and kill people. The slums are so dirty that they can cause deadly diseases and spread easily because the houses are so close together. Health problems in the slums are a negative effect on human.
Last but not least, Slums affect human population because they cause poverty. “Slums are booming for reasons that many countries share, like poverty and war, which push people from the country side into the cities “, (theworls.org, 2006). This quote shows why people would rather live in slums. Living in slums has both negative and positive effects on human population. A negative affect on the human population is that it causes poverty to increase due to how cheap it is to live in a slum. People are convinced that the cheapest way to live instead of the streets is in a slum. Living in slums affects human population, because it causes poverty.
In conclusion, slums are bad for the ecosystem and humans. They cause a lot of issues. Slums effect human population because they are dangerous, unsanitary, and cause poverty. Slums are a negative affect, to this world and people should be global advocates by informing themselves about this issue and taking action.
